New work for the Threads of History series.

This painting is to do with the Civil War and how the Log Cabin quilt entered into helping the slaves get to the safe farms and the railroad.

The dark center told them that it was safe to come to this farm. The quilts were hanging to dry, so that they could be seen from a distance.

This is a great story!! Fred had taken this wonderful photo of a sunset on Marco Island and decided to give a special birthday gift to his fiancee. This is where I came into the picture. He wanted me to paint a painting of the scene in watercolor on a 15x22 sheet of paper, to surprise his fiancee on her birthday. I finished the painting in December.

They were coming home from a trip and he talked her into stopping by my house. They were both very tired, so she could not understand the stop. But to her surprise there was this wonderful wrapped gift for her.

All the originals have a special place and all the new work is waiting to be worked on. This is very exciting.

I will start working on new paintings for the "Threads of History" theme. I have a number of this series finished and ready to show, but want to have a few more to show a gallery for a solo show, hopefully within the year, probably in Sarasota or Tampa.

Here are two photos of my working studio, when I am in the studio I look across the dining room to a lake and the 18th fairway. The Studio is facing North, with lots of windows and light.

My studio is now ready for use. It is very exciting!!! This is my first organized studio in a smaller, but lovely room overlooking the lake and 18th fairway.

The last cabinets were installed yesterday. I am so excited. This studio is the best!!!! I have a beautiful view of a lake and the 18th fairway. See the finished product. Moving has taken a lot of effort, but it all has been worth while. I feel like I am on vacation everyday.

We leave for Jamaica tomorrow, so I will not be able to finish organizing my new studio until I get back. But I am looking forward to painting (plein air) in Jamacia. I will be sketching and painting in beautiful Jamaica for two and half weeks, so look for Jamaica scenes at the end of the month, unless I am able to get on my blog before that.

I look forward to producing new art in my studio and continuing with my newest theme "THREADS OF HISTORY". I am also excited about painting in Florida. The plants and wild life are so different compared to Washington.

Beautiful Jamaica, sun, rain, wind so far. Enjoying my stay, painting on the beach, and watching the sunsets. Sketching and painting the scenery. Will down load some photos of sketches soon.

It is so nice to be wearing bathing suits, lovely colorful wraps and the traditional beach jewelry.

Lots of fun food, with large buffets. My favorites, papaya, seafood and lots of vegetables and fruit, and some lovely pastries. We have eated at the Victoria Market, French, and Jamaican (Jerk Chicken & Pork), and of course the pool bar buffet and the wonderful Street buffet.

Above are the sketches and small paintings I did on my trip to Jamaica last year, thought everyone would enjoy seeing them. I will continue to sketch and paint on my next trip in June 2009 and post them on my blog, hopefully as I progress thru the trip.

This is history viewed through my grandmother's generation, living in Missouri on a farm owned by the family for 200 years. As I realize how much it is part of my life. My own life is opening windows to help me see and create work from these experiences and my journey with art. "Grandbecome history, Imother's Lace" painting shows the pieces of her lace and threads she used for sewing dresses, etc. These are the common threads in our family. I have followed in my aware of my family grandmother's footsteps designing clothes, sewing and painting and continuing to use these common threads.
