My Travels with Sketches and Paintings.

While traveling, I have always carried my paints, brushes, pens, sketch books and papers, so that I could sketch my travels.

So, I have an extensive collection of sketches and paintings.

My thoughts are of producing a book about my travels, not a to do book.

What do you think???

Art Center - Manatee, Bradenton, Fl  34205

"Inspired Visions " , All Media Open Exhibition Show, June 5 - July 6, 2012

Reception:  Thursday June 7, 2012, 5-7pm

I have received an Honorable Mention for my Painting:  "Threads of History II - Civil War & Quilts II".

A little about Civil War & Quilts Series:  This series will also focus on my family's history.  This includes the "Log Cabin" quilt that helped escaped slaves find safe farms and routes to get to the next safe farms.  This travel was known as the "Underground Railroad".  The "Log Cabin" quilt was hung out to be refreshed in the open air.  If  it had a dark center, it meant it was safe to go to that farm.  Each quilt had hand-sewn stitiching of a map to lead them to the next safe farm, as they traveled the "Underground Railroad".

Threads of History

New work for the Threads of History series.

This painting is to do with the Civil War and how the Log Cabin quilt entered into helping the slaves get to the safe farms and the railroad.

The dark center told them that it was safe to come to this farm. The quilts were hanging to dry, so that they could be seen from a distance.
